BET's Ed Gordon Gives SU Students A Few Words
EspreeNet News Service
SYRACUSE, NY -- Over a hundred students attended The Black Voice/Black Communications Society anniversary lecture featuring the star of BET Tonight Ed Gordon.
In a very relaxed environment, Gordon addressed the crowd with his trademark smile and one statement.
"I just want to say that I don't know if it was R. Kelly on the tape but I have some for sale in the back" he said jokingly. Once that was done he quickly let everyone know that he is just like them, and he was going to give it to them straight.
He spoke about many different topic from the movie Barbershop to the OJ Simpson interview. Telling the student that it is their responsibility to balance the image of blacks, and at the same time there is an acceptance of a double standard when it comes to blacks and whites.
"Just like there is an Evans family in the projects, there is a Huxtable family in the suburbs", said Gordon. The community needs to except that as being real. When looking at Roseanne and Dynasty no one questions which is fantasy and which is real life.
He also said "if you don't like something get up and make noise and if you do like something get up and make more noise", corporations (Like MGM in the Barbershop Controversy) count on you keeping quite.
The crowd nodded in agreement, as he continued to give it to them straight.
(Ed Gordon can be seen weeknights at 11:30 eastern on Black Entertainment Television)
